Platinum prints.
If you are not interested in this section are in luck, because this is by far the most difficult of all the "process." Assuming that you are ready to sell, which means they have the skills, a portfolio, equipment, printing materials, assembly and frame and so on, there are basically two options, the online sale or selling in the real world. The first one contains three sub-options: selling on eBay and / or through of our own website and / or online galleries.
Selling on eBay has proven successful for me, but it is hard work requiring dedication. (There are other auction sites, of course, but can not compete with eBay). advantage of eBay is its high visibility, which I found useful also to meet many other artists and photographers and share experiences, impressions, etc. Unfortunately, the market price is lower, and if you want to be seen among the thousands of ads that you have to invest some money. eBay and PayPal combined fees are very high. To make matters worse, if you start selling from scratch (ie without comment and unknown) and a decent price, say $ 100 per print, can be quite sure that no one is likely to buy their work. You may want to try, if possible, with nudity, which is a genre certainly works better than the countryside (in Internet not only on eBay of course). If you are looking for gallery representation you can expect to be noticed on eBay, but in my experience, is unlikely. As mentioned in the first part, the good news is that if you bite the bullet and start offering their work to a lower price you will some sales, you will be able to print and learn, etc, and gradually to raise its price. This does not mean you have to compromise their integrity, because I have seen over a talented photographer palladium selling copies in as little as $ 15, I agree. As mentioned in Part 1 a good selling point is editioning work. I have several images in my portfolio is now sold, but the image has to be truly exceptional. Until 2005/2006 more photos on eBay was an exciting place with many Several talented artists and collectors interested. Since then, as eBay is getting worse, especially for sellers, so is the photography category.
Selling through a website, either yours or other online galleries, such as Artbyus etc is another way. In my experience, it proposes a specific job (such Once a niche, such as landscapes or pictures of architecture, etc.) and advertising with Google AdWords (and library journals, such as B & W Magazine, at the same time) has been successful, but of course that requires financial exposure. Ironically, I sell on my web sites at a higher price on eBay, and despite having obviously no comments on my website, people are willing to pay more. Well, obviously on their own site is not competent, but it is also true that sales occur most eBay frequently. The two magic words on the Internet are the niches and keywords. Just try to do something very specific and push with the right tools, (you to be a bit of a geek Internet to sell online) and is likely to succeed. The proposal to work with a more generic approach is more likely to be a failure. If you begin printing in platinum is for is a breakthrough, it is obvious that does not mean that you are the one to do so.
A third approach that has been working to me, that's the impression to others. There are many out there willing to pay for their important memories and printed and presented to the advantage of staying long. The final choice, as has been said, is selling in the real world. This is entirely up to you, as it depends on the circumstances, I have a small personal finance studio / gallery where I can show my work on appointment. In the past I have been very busy with local shows, but I find it a nuisance because these decisions and the development of about 25 images and the sale of ten leaves you with 15 unsold, framed, numbered (often scratched or damaged in transit), which is a waste money. Final words.
Print Platinum is very rewarding and all you need is to be consistent with the process and care when mixing and handling chemicals. The cost is easy to keep under control, similar to the print and digital (inkjet inks and papers are extremely expensive, plus the cost of a professional printer, software, etc).
Not become a master engraver overnight, however, the difficulty lies not in the art, it is relatively easy to master, do you have if you can or not to assess critically at their own impressions. This can improve the visualization work of others, visiting art galleries or trade pt-pd prints with other photographers, and developing their own artistic vision. The second issue is purely financial. If you manage to sell your work, you can earn enough money to treat different techniques and experiment with different roles, double layer, different mixes, etc.
Taking pictures of art also teaches conservation mounting and framing, editioning and, for those interested in printing, the custom of other fellow photographers and artists, further improving their skills.
