Luis Vuittion Book News, Louis Vuitton: art, fashion and architecture
The fashion house Louis Vuitton always walked the line between fashion and art, and collaborations have characterized its long history. In 1980, Louis Vuitton began working with artists such as César, Sol LeWitt and Olivier Debré. Since these contributions became rich texture a tradition and reached a new level when Marc Jacobs joined the House in 1997. During his career Vuitton creative director has worked in collaboration with Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami and more recently American artists Richard Prince and Kanye West.
Based on this situation, Louis Vuitton is going to release a book Louis Vuitton: Art, Fashion and Architecture, to give a detailed look at the various collaborative projects that the brand has been involved in. This book is dedicated to presenting unique creations forged between Louis Vuitton and a growing number of designers in the world of art, architecture, design, photography and fashion. The content includes 400 pages of critical essays related to the creation of Louis Vuitton contemporary illustration and 400 documents in color. This book will be published on 01 September in three languages, French, English and Italian.
As President and CEO of Louis Vuitton, Yves Carcelle, was interviewed, who responded three questions related to these books.
Why publish now a retrospective book of the important contributions of Louis Vuitton?
At Louis Vuitton, the influence of art has been an obvious inspiration for new products, the architecture of the store, artistic collaborations, and advertising campaigns of the Maison. Our willingness to build and grow our relationship with the contemporary art world has led us to work with many artists of our time, such as photographers, architects and fashion designers. It is essential for Louis Vuitton to track, through a fascinating anthology, its most significant artistic contributions. In this book, the focus remains on the artists who have influenced the history of Louis Vuitton.
What is the role of Louis Vuitton in the world of contemporary art?
Of all the modern luxury brand Louis Vuitton can hope to maintain the rich and varied partnerships with the world of art – indeed, it is a tradition that goes back almost to the origins of the House. This desire to create and reinvent continuously, maintaining and transmitting the history and brand identity has been transformed into multiple collaborations most of the time quite unexpected. Constantly renewed under the influence of Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton commitment to art has been recently underlined by the creation of the Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation, announced in October 2006 by Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH / Moët Hennessy.Louis Vuitton. Foundation future will be a new and exciting concept space and the intention to encourage dialogue with a wide audience and provide artists and intellectuals with a platform for discussion, inspiration and reflection. If the brand inspires artists, designers and architects, who, in turn, inspired Louis Vuitton. This mutual inspiration is very challenging and productive not only for the world of luxury, but also for the contemporary art world.
What explains the success of the collaboration of Louis Vuitton?
Fashion, luxury, art and architecture come together to propose a new vision of the world and lead us out of the ordinary. Contemporary art gives us an alternative view. Modern architecture is inseparable from the world of luxury, plays a key role in establishing the Louis Vuitton name at the present time. The fashion industry and designers to give new energy and unique creativity to the collections of prêt-à-porter of the house. The contemporary artist, is an architect, a photographer or a designer fashion, often produces unexpected creations. It is a bold challenge for Louis Vuitton and I think only a handful of brands have been able to overcome the limits of this point between luxury and contemporary.
