Sir Winston Churchill – War Chief, artist and writer

Sir Winston Churchill was one of the most iconic in Britain and is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest political leader of the century and 20. I thought it would be interesting to write the history of this famous icon of his birth on November 30 1874 in Blenheim Palace, a house given by Queen Anne of the ancestors of Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough. He is best known for his determination but courageous leadership Prime Minister of Great Britain when he addressed the British people to the brink of defeat during World War II.

He was the eldest son of Lord Randolph Churchill, a conservative Democrat (a British political party) who achieved early success as a maverick in his party. Later, after Randolph Churchill was cruelly described as "a man with a bright future behind him." His mother was Jenny Jerome, the beautiful and talented daughter of Leonard Jerome, a businessman New York. Winston idolized his mother but his relationship with his father, who died in 1895, were cold and distant. Generally agreed that as a child Winston showed no affection for his family.

Churchill as a child was sensitive and suffered from a minor speech problem. He was educated according to the rules of class. The first time I went to high school and then to Harrow in 1888 when he was twelve. Winston was not particularly interested in studying Latin and mathematics and spent time studying in the lower-level courses until they passed the tests and was able to advance. He received a good education in English, however, and won a prize of reading aloud some of Thomas Macaulay (1800-1859) Lays of Ancient Rome (1842). After finishing in Harrow, Winston failed the test Access to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst three times before finally passing and being allowed to attend school. His academic record improved considerably once it started at school. When he graduated in 1894 he was eighth in his class.

Churchill very early showed physical courage and love of adventure and the action maintained throughout his political career. His first role was as a soldier-journalist.

In 1895 he went to Cuba to write about the Spanish army for the Daily Graphic. In 1896 he was in India, and while in the North-West Frontier with the Malakand Field Force began working on a novel, Savrola: history Laurania the Revolution. A book was published in 1900.

More important, however, accounts of Churchill's military campaigns in which it participated. Savrola was followed by a book about the reconquest of the Sudan (1899), which also took part. As a journalist of the Morning Post, went to Africa during the Boer War (1899-1902), where British forces fought against the Dutch forces in southern Africa. The most romantic his adventures as a young man was his escape from a prison in South Africa during this conflict and the "Wanted Dead Or Alive poster of" putting all of southern Africa.

In 1899 Churchill lost his first bid for election to the House of Commons, one of the two supervisory bodies of Parliament in England. This would be the first of many defeats in the elections, as Churchill lost the election more than any other political figure in recent British history. But in 1900 he entered the House of Commons, where he served from time to time until 1964. Churchill's early years in politics is characterized by an interest in radical reform (improvement) social problems. The intellectual achievement of this period in the life of Churchill was his liberalism and social problem (1909). In this paper said his belief in liberalism, political views or the stress of civil rights and the use of government to promote social progress. Churchill was very active in government a major overhaul of Lord Asquith between 1908 and 1912, and work to combat unemployment was particularly significant.

In 1912, Churchill became First Lord Admiralty, the British government department that controls the naval fleet. He changed out of his enthusiasm for social reform to prepare the fleet of Great Britain for a war that threatened Europe. While the Admiralty Churchill suffered a major setback. He was committed to the view that the Navy best way to make an impact in the war in Europe (1914-18) through a fast break through the Dardanelles, a key waterway in central Europe. This strategy was unsuccessful, however, and Admiralty, Churchill lost his job. In 1916 he was back in the army, serving for a time in the first line in France.

Churchill Soon re-entered political life. He was kept out of the Lloyd George Cabinet War by hostility toward his conservative style and philosophy. But in 1921 Churchill took a position as colonial secretary. A clash with Turkish President Kemal Atatürk, however, did not help his reputation, and in 1922 lost his seat in the House of Commons. The Conservative Party came to power for the first time since 1905, and Churchill began a long-term isolation, with few political allies.

In 1924 Churchill severed its ties with liberalism and became Chancellor of the Exchequer (British Treasury) in (1867-1947) Stanley Baldwin government. Churchill raised controversy when he decided to put back in Britain from the gold standard, a system where the currency is equal to the value of a given quantity of gold. Although took office in Baldwin, Churchill did not agree with their position either in defense or imperialism, Britain's policy decision on its colonies. In 1931 he resigned his "shadow cabinet" conservative, in protest against the politics of India.

After the outbreak of the Second World War on September 3, 1939 the day Britain declared war on Germany, Churchill was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty and a member of the War Cabinet, as had been during the first part of the First World War. When informed, the Board of Admiralty sent a signal to the fleet: "Winston is back." In this work, proved to be one of the highest-profile ministers during the "Phoney War" when the only noticeable action was at sea. Churchill advocated preventive occupation of the neutral Norwegian port of Narvik iron ore and iron ore mines in Kiruna, Sweden, early in the war. However, Chamberlain and the rest of the Cabinet War did not agree, and the operation was delayed until the successful German invasion of Norway.

On May 10, 1940, hours before the German invasion of France by a lightning advance through the Netherlands, it became clear that, after the failure in Norway, the country had no confidence Chamberlain in the prosecution of the war and so Chamberlain resigned. The commonly accepted version of events states that Lord Halifax turned down the prime minister because he believed he could not govern effectively as a member of the House of Lords rather than the House of Commons. Although traditionally the prime minister to advise the King of the trainers successor, Chamberlain wanted someone who would command the support of the three main parties in the House of Commons.

A meeting between Chamberlain, Halifax, Churchill and David Margesson, the government Chief Whip, led to the recommendation of Churchill, and as we are a constitutional monarch, King George VI asked Churchill to be prime minister and form a government of all parties. Churchill's first act was to write to Chamberlain to thank you for your support.

Churchill was among the first to recognize the growing threat of Hitler long before the beginning of World War II, and his warnings had gone largely unheeded. Although there was an element of British public and political sentiment in favor of negotiated peace with a clearly ascendant Germany, among them the Foreign Secretary Lord Halifax.

Churchill, however, refused to consider an armistice with Hitler's Germany. His use of rhetoric hardened public opinion against a peaceful resolution and prepared the British for a long war. Coining the general term for the upcoming battle, Churchill said in his "Finest Hour" speech to the House of Commons on June 18, 1940, "I hope the battle of Britain is about to begin." By refusing an armistice with Germany, Churchill kept resistance alive in the British Empire and created the basis for subsequent allied against the attacks of 1942-1945, with Britain serving as a platform to supply the Soviet Union and the liberation of Western Europe.

In response to previous criticisms that there has been no clear single minister by the prosecution of the war, Churchill created and took the additional post of Minister of Defense. Immediately went to his friend and confidant, the industrialist and Baron newspapers Lord Beaverbrook, in charge of aircraft production. Beaverbrook was business acumen that allowed Britain to quickly prepare production aircraft and engineering that eventually made the difference in the war.

Churchill's speeches were a great inspiration to the embattled British. His first speech as prime minister was the famous "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat."

Continued closely with two other equally famous, since just before the Battle of Britain. Included the words:

… we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight in the airfields, fight in the fields and streets, we shall fight in the hills, never surrender.

The others:

Let us go therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so lead us that if the British Empire and Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men are saying, "This was its best. "

At the height of the Battle of Britain, the study reinforced the status includes the memorable line "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few "that engendered the enduring nickname" The Few "of the fighter pilots of the RAF who won.

One of his most memorable speeches of the war came on 10 November 1942 at the Lord Mayor's Luncheon at Mansion House in London, in response to Allied victory in the Second Battle of El Alamein. Churchill said:

"This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. "

Without much in the way of sustenance or good news to offer the British people, who took a risk in the deliberate choice to emphasize the dangers in place.

"Rhetorical power," wrote Churchill, " is neither fully given nor fully acquired, but cultivated. "

As an Englishman I am proud that we were able to operate in alone from 1939 to early 1942 against Hitler, Stalin and other Nazi collaborator governments in continental Europe.

The final period Churchill's career began with the British people will reject the general elections of 1945. In that election Labour candidates were elected 393 members of Parliament against 213 Conservatives and their allies. It was one of the most striking reversals of fortune in the democratic history. This may be explained by the desire of voters British Social Reform.

In 1951, voters returned Churchill as prime minister. This was a belated thanks to the voters.

Resigned in April due to his age and health problems 1955 during his term in office. For many of the last years of his life, including his personal strength was not sufficient to resist persistent cerebral arteriosclerosis, suffered a brain disorder. He died on January 24, 1965, and was given a state funeral.
